AGERP’21 – Lecture on “Mechanically Stabilised Earth” – 16th April 2021

The organising committee of Advancements in Geotechnical Engineering: From Research to Practice (AGERP) Lecture Series is pleased to invite you to the 1st lecture of the 2nd edition of AGERP Lecture Series (AGERP’21). The first lecture will be on ‘Mechanically Stabilised Earth (MSE) Walls’. This lecture will be jointly delivered by Prof. Emeritus Richard J. Bathurst (GeoEngineering Centre at Queen’s-RMC, Canada) and Ms. Chaido (Yuli) Doulala-Rigby (Tensar International Corporation, UK).

Lecture 1 is scheduled to be hosted on 16th April 2021 (Australian Eastern Standard Time-AEST) with registration for this lecture closing at 00:00, 15th April 2021 (AEST).

You may find further info. and register (free but mandatory) here: https://www.age-rp.com/

12th International Conference on Geosynthetics: Abstract submission deadline extended to February 28, 2021

The Italian Geotechnical Society (AGI) and the Italian Chapter of IGS (AGI-IGS) invite you to attend the 12th International Conference on Geosynthetics, 12 ICG, which will be held in Roma, Italy, from 18 to 22 September 2022.
The geosynthetics and geotechnical engineering community has reached full awareness over the last two decades, and the whole geosynthetics industry has focused on the sustainable use of geosynthetics in a variety of innovative as well as consolidated applications.
Hence 12 ICG intends to become the base for the next step and the conference theme will be: Geosynthetics, Leading the Way to a Resilient Planet.

Abstract submission deadline extended to February 28, 2021

The Organizing Committee of 12th International Conference on Geosynthetics (12 ICG) invites all geotechnical and geosynthetics professionals and academics to submit abstracts. For information please visit the web-sitehttps://www.12icg-roma.org/

12th International Conference on Geosynthetics, 18 to 22 September 2022

With great pleasure and honour the Italian Geotechnical Society (AGI) and the Italian Chapter of IGS (AGI-IGS) invite you to attend the 12th International Conference on Geosynthetics, 12 ICG, which will be held in Roma, Italy, from 18 to 22 September 2022.
The geosynthetics and geotechnical engineering community has reached full awareness over the last two decades, and the whole geosynthetics industry has focused on the sustainable use of geosynthetics in a variety of innovative as well as consolidated applications. After Sustainability, the ability to overcome the natural events effects, often related to climate change, and human activities forced to refer to a new keyword: Resiliency.
Hence 12 ICG intends to become the base for the next step and the conference theme will be: Geosynthetics, Leading the Way to a Resilient Planet.
The conference topics will address, through general and parallel sessions, keynote lectures and invited presentation, the most recent developments in geosynthetics, stimulating fruitful technical and scientific interaction among academicians, professionals, manufacturers, students.

Opportunity for PhD studies on Unsaturated Geomaterials and Contaminant Transport at Monash University (Melbourne)

Three scholarships are available for PhD studies commencing in 2019. The scholarships will provide support for three years on a full-time basis for a research project leading to a PhD.

Project 1: the project aims at developing an experimentally validated theory of the behaviour of geosynthetic clay liners (GCLs) under high temperatures and salt gradients that will lead to a significant improvement in the understanding of their hydraulic behaviour. The PhD will focus on the evaluation of temperature effects, wet/dry cycles salt gradients and stress changes on the water retention curves (WRCs) of geosynthetic clay liners.

Project 2 (2 scholarships): the project will focus on contaminant transport through lining systems. Particular emphasis will be given to chemical compatibility issues between a suite of emerging contaminants (PFAS, etc.) and soil and geosynthetic liners. This project aims at providing practitioners with better tools to estimate the design life of hydraulic barriers systems.

Applicants should have an Honours 1 or First Class Honours Degree in Engineering or Science and an interest in analytical/numerical and experimental research. The scholarship value is A$28,500  per annum, with the possibility of a top-up depending on academic standing and/or experience. The potential for further earning is also possible through tutoring.

For further information, contact Prof. Malek Bouazza, at malek.bouazza@monash.edu. Applications including a curriculum vitae, a copy of academic transcript, evidence of English-language proficiency (international applicants only) names and contact details of at least two academic referees should be sent to the above email address.
