AGERP’21 Lecture series (update)

The AGERPAdvancements in Geotechnical Engineering: from Research to Practice – Organising Committee invites you to a lecture series which aims to disseminate the coupled learnings from academia and industry on some of the key topics in geotechnical engineering. It is a pro bono initiative, and the lectures are free to attend.

The sixth lecture will be on ‘Design of Foundations‘. Both the talks of this Lecture will be delivered by Emeritus Professor Harry Poulos (University of Sydney, Australia).

Lecture 6 is scheduled to be hosted in two separate sessions on 23rd September 2021 and 24th September 2021 (Australian Eastern Standard Time-AEST) with registration closing at 00:00, 22nd September 2021 (AEST).

Past lectures

The first lecture was on ‘Mechanically Stabilised Earth (MSE) Walls’. This lecture was delivered by Prof. Emeritus Richard J. Bathurst (GeoEngineering Centre at Queen’s-RMC, Canada) and Ms. Chaido (Yuli) Doulala-Rigby (Tensar International Corporation, UK) on 15th April 2021.

2nd lecture: ‘AI and Big Data in Geotechnics‘, jointly delivered by Dr. Robert C. Bachus (Geosyntec Consultants, Georgia, USA), Professor Sarat Kumar Das (Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad, India) and Dr. Nick Machairas (Groundwork A.I. – Next-gen Geotechnics, USA) on 3rd May 2021.

3rd lecture: ‘Geotechnics of Tailings Dams ‘, jointly delivered by Prof. Scott Michael Olson (University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, USA) and Mr. Michael Jefferies (Consulting Engineer, UK) on 28th May 2021

4th lecture: ‘In-situ Testing in Geotechnical Engineering’, jointly delivered by Professor Emeritus Peter K. Robertson (Gregg Drilling LLC, USA) and Eng. Diego Marchetti (Marchetti DMT, Italy) on 11th June 2021

5th lecture: ‘Soil Erosion’, jointly delivered by Prof. Jean-Louis Briaud (Texas A&M University, USA) and Mr. Amir Shahkolahi (Global Synthetics Pty Ltd., Australia) on 23rd July 2021

The organising committee of Advancements in Geotechnical Engineering: From Research to Practice (AGERP) Lecture Series is pleased to invite you to the 2nd lecture of the 2nd edition of AGERP Lecture Series (AGERP’21). This Lecture will be delivered by Prof. Buddhima Indraratna (University of Technology Sydney, Australia) and  Dr. AHM Kamruzzaman (Transport for NSW, Australia).

The second lecture, titled “Geophysics for Geotechnical Engineers“, will take place on June 25, 2020 (flyer).

The third lecture will be delivered by Prof. Catherine O’Sullivan from Imperial Collage, UK and Mr. David Wines from Itasca Australia Pty. Ltd. The lecture will be on ‘Advanced Numerical Methods and Modelling in Geotechnical Engineering’. This is scheduled on 9th July 2020 and registrations (free and mandatory) close one day before the lecture (flyer)

The fourth lecture of AGERP series which will be delivered by Em. Prof. Malcolm Bolton from Uni. of Cambridge, UK and Dr. Chris Haberfield from Golder Associates Pty Ltd., Australia. The lecture will be on ‘Design of Pile Foundations’. This is scheduled on 24th July 2020. Registration (free and mandatory) opens at 18:00, 09th July 2020 (AEST) and closes at 00:00 23rd July 2020 (AEST).

The 5th lecture will be on ‘Geohazards‘ and will be delivered by Professor Sarah Springman from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich), Switzerland and Dr. Barnali Ghosh from Mott MacDonald, London, UK. This is scheduled on 14th August 2020.

The 6th lecture will be on ‘Mechanics of Unsaturated Soils’ and will be delivered by Professor Em. Delwyn Fredlund from University of Saskatchewan, Canada and Dr. Murray Fredlund from Bentley Systems, Canada. This is scheduled on 29th August 2020. The 7th installment will be on ‘Biogeotechnics‘. This is scheduled on 3rd October 2020 (AEST). Registration closes at 00:00, 2nd October 2020 (AEST). This Lecture will be delivered by Professor Kenichi Soga (University of California, Berkeley, USA) and Dr. Wayne Muller (CodedRADAR, Queensland, Australia).

The 9th installment will be on ‘Energy Geotechnics’. This is scheduled on 30th October 2020 (AEST). Registration (free and mandatory) for this lecture closes at 00:00, 29th October 2020 (AEST). This Lecture will be delivered by Professor Marcelo Sanchez (Texas A&M University, USA) and Dr. Fleur Loveridge (University of Leeds, England).
